Walter Lee Abernathy was born on November 5, 1947, to the late Leo Abernathy, Sr. and Lucille King Abernathy, both of whom preceded him in death. He departed his earthly life, September 15, 2024.
Walter confessed his hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized. Later he joined Cave Spring Missionary Baptist Church, in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. He graduated from Leighton Training School and was faithful worker of Chrysler for many years. Walter loved motorcycles and he was a proud member of Tru Freedom Riders.
He is preceded in death by his son, Tarrant Abernathy, and two brothers, John Abernathy and Earnest Mullins.
Walter leaves to cherish his memories: a very devoted wife, Teresa Robinson Abernathy; two daughters: Katrina Abernathy and Angela (Walter) Strong, both of North Babylon, New York; one stepdaughter: Amber Robinson-Tuscumbia, AL, two stepsons: Maurice (Autumn) Robinson-Muscle Shoals, AL and Demarcus (Caroline) Robinson-Leighton, AL; two grandchildren: Kayden Abernathy and Aniya Strong- North Babylon, New York; two bonus children: Jayden Hice and Alyssa Robinson, both of Leighton, AL; two sisters: Mary (Servon) Gilbert-Decatur, AL, and Lucy (Wayne) Bowman-Hillsboro, AL, ; three brothers: George (Reba) Abernathy-Leighton, AL, Leo Abernathy, Jr.-Leighton, AL, and Donald (Shelia) Abernathy-Tuscumbia, AL; sister-in-law: Sigglees Abernathy-Leighton, AL; two brothers-in-law: James Robinson-Tuscumbia, AL, and Anthony (Vicky) Robinson-Smyrna, TN; god brother: David Ray Houston-Muscle Shoals, AL; three special nieces: Christel Wilson-Leighton, AL, Candace Robinson-Florence, AL, and Ryeshia Koger-Muscle Shoals, AL; a special uncle: Willie West-Leighton, AL. A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
