Thomas Thompson Obituary

Thomas Edward Thompson, 73, passed quietly away from this life on the night of Friday, April 28, 2023, after a decline in health, at Ascension St Thomas Rutherford Hospital, Murfreesboro, TN. He had been surrounded by his family during those last few days. Thomas was born the third of thirteen children of Gertha Lee Thompson Jarmon and husbands, Tom Sidney Thompson Jr and Masciner Jarmon, on
November 24, 1949, in Colbert County, Alabama. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Sidney Thompson Sr and Gertrude Newman Thompson. His maternal grandparents were Meather Lewis Sr and Mary Pearsall Burt.
Early in life Thomas accepted Christ as his personal Savior and joined Mt Olive Missionary Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a deacon and a steadfast Sunday school teacher until he moved to Tennessee, where he continued to serve as a dedicated deacon and Sunday school teacher at Cherry Grove Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, TN. Known in the community for his Argo starched Levi jeans with a crease and his laidback personality, he was a peace-loving guy. He loved hanging out with family and friends while reminiscing over the past.
Thomas graduated from Muscle Shoats High School being among the first African Americans to integrate that school system. He made history again as the first African American to play football at Muscle Shoals High School. He excelled in karate where he secured a black belt and was an excellent bowler, participating in various tournaments. He was employed in the Shoals area at Shop Rite, Union Carbide, National Linen, and Schneider Electric (Square D), Murfreesboro, TN.  Thomas was married to Annie Pearl Newsome and to this union two daughters were born, Juanita Thompson Goodloe and Lamesia Thompson King. Later he married Judy Madden and to this union four children were added, Ezell Nail, Marcueia Nall, Haven Sayvorn and Ebony Sayvorn.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather and two siblings: Gertha Lee Thompson Jarmon, Tom Sidney Thompson Jr, Masciner Jarmon, Sharron Thompson, and Veronica Jarmon Freeman.
He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife of 30 years, Judy Madden Thompson,
Murfreesboro, TN; six children: Juanita Thompson Goodloe, Muscle Shoals, AL, Lamesia Thompson King, Marcueia Nail, Haven Sayvorn, and Ebony Sayvorn, Murfreesboro, TN, and Ezell Nall, Coney, GA., three granddaughters: Marquita (Derrick) Williams, Jasmine Petty, and Arsheanna Rhodes, seven greatgrandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, four sisters: Edna Thompson McPherson, Dorothy (Thomas) Burgess, and Reja Jarmon, Muscle Shoals, AL and Alma Thompson, Louisville, KY, nine brothers: Robert Thompson, Charles (Deloris) Jarmon, and Larry Jarmon, Muscle Shoals, AL, Marvin Thompson, Florence, AL, Michael (Jackie) Jarmon, Tanner, AL, Billy Ray (Norma) Jarmon, Athens, AL, Claiborn (Jackie) Thompson, Moultrie, GA, Kenneth Thompson and Dyrrick Thompson, Louisville, KY, Uncle: Houston Lee Thompson, Los Angles, CA; Aunt: Gertha Lee Hawkins, Louisville, KY and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and numerous friends.
