Obituary

Rosa Mae Lewis HamerRosa Hamer was born on August 6, 1949, in Colbert County, Alabama, to Rosanna and Meather Lewis, Sr. She was the third child born to this union. She departed this life on May 24, 2023, at Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield, Alabama.
She accepted Christ at the tender age of 12 at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church of Hawkins Creek where she served on the usher board for many years. Later in life, she joined Victory Christian Fellowship where she remained a faithful member while serving on the Mother Board.
Rosa graduated from Leighton Training School in 1967. She went on to complete her Business and Clerical Classification in 1973 followed by her certification as a certified nursing assistant in 1977. Rosa was a faithful dependable worker at Glenwood Convalescent Center until she progressed in her career, changing her place of employment to Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital (ECM). She remained at ECM until she retired in 2014 as a surgical technician. Rosa thoroughly enjoyed reading, interior decorating, holiday decorating, playing Candy Crush, and using Facebook (once she got the hang of it).
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rosanna and Meather Lewis, Sr.; grandparents, Jerry and Ollie Smith; former husband, Lee Hamer, Sr.; sister, Gertha Lee Jarmon; four brothers, Albert Lee Burt, Nathaniel Smith, Meather Lewis, Jr., and Robert James “Jody” Lewis; and great-grandson, Charles Turner, Jr.
She leaves to cherish precious memories: her two daughters, Carolyn Diane Lewis and Tonya Ingram; four sons, Lee Hamer, Jr., Christfer Hamer, Thaddeus Hamer, Sr., and Ryan Hamer; sisters, Haley Vaughn, Brenda Kellam, and Mildred (Ricky) Green; brother, William Ray Lewis; thirty-five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; special friends, Queen Bush, Earline Flint, Nicola Freeman, Reverend Jarvis Hammond, Nakeithia McClure, Greta Stanley, and Chandra Tucker; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
