The Journey of Pastor Willie E. Grubbs
MAY 6, 1946 - AUGUST 27, 2025
Willie Eugene Grubbs was born on May 6, 1946, to Hattie Pearl Grubbs and Charles Holiday. Raised by a stern but loving grandmother, Louvina Grubbs, she ensured that young Willie attended church, grounding him early in the faith. Little did she know, she was raising a preacher-one who would grow to lead God's people with conviction, compassion, and unwavering faith.
From a young age, he gave the preacher his hand and the Lord his heart, beginning a lifelong journey marked by faith, hope, and love. Pastor Grubbs spent the majority of his working life at General Motors and Cherokee Middle School, serving with dedication and integrity.
He was called to preach the uncompromising Gospel in 1975 and remained steadfast and unmovable in his calling until his passing. Over the course of his ministry, he faithfully pastored three churches from 1980 to 2025, shepherding God's people with dedication and wisdom.
Pastor Grubbs received his formal education graduating cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in Theological Studies at American Baptist Theological Seminary in 1983.
In 1994, Pastor Willie Grubbs married Eva Fuqua. Together, they were blessed with a daughter, Jada Grubbs, the heartbeat of his life who lovingly assisted in his care until the end of his life, and a grandson and cherished "TV buddy," Xayden Hill.
His family was a source of joy, love, and inspiration throughout his life and ministry, providing strength and support as he faithfully served God’s people. He was deeply proud of his two sons, who followed in his footsteps, faithfully preaching the Gospel and continuing the family legacy of service to God's kingdom. Minister Victor Grubbs (Tricee) and Minister William Grubbs (Shari) both of San Diego, California.
His daughters, whose gifts and talents reflected their inner and outer beauty, were a source of inspiration and pride:
Jada Grubbs of Athens, Alabama, Sonya Mapp of Madison, Alabama, and Sonya "Sandy" Koger Spencer (deceased) of Vance, Alabama, Concetta Lewis (Patrick) of Birmingham, Alabama, Niketha Grubbs of Springfield, Missouri, and Sharon Fields of Birmingham, Alabama.
His desire was for his 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren to be raised in the admonition of the Lord, growing in faith, wisdom, and the knowledge of God's ways.
He was deeply encouraged and strengthened by the love of his siblings, whose support and faith enriched his life and ministry: sisters, Sadie Hampton Detroit, Michigan, Connie Knight (Walter Jones) of Cherokee, Alabama, and Pamela Lewis (deceased) of Birmingham, Alabama; and brothers, Cleven Knight, Jr. (Maria) of Escondido, California, and Barry Knight (Miyoshi) of Florence, Alabama.
His grandparents provided a foundation of faith and love, shaping the man who would faithfully serve God and His people, deceased grandparents, Mary Holiday, Hezekiah Holiday, Louvina Grubbs, Bide Grubbs, all of Cherokee, Alabama.
From Michigan, the Great Lakes State, Pastor Grubbs carried with him the resilience and determination that marked a people shaped by industry and hard work. By way of Alabama, the Heart of Dixie, he was rooted in Southern warmth, tradition, and a deep heritage of faith, gospel, and hospitality. In Tennessee, the Volunteer Stat where his calling was sharpened, his knowledge deepened, and his voice for the gospel strengthened. And int Kentucky, the Bluegrass State, he came to plant his life and ministry-bringing with him his faith, his gifts, and his calling. Here, among rolling hills and faithful people, he built a legacy of service that will never be forgotten.
Pastor Grubbs' ministry was built upon his favorite scripture:
"For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost." - Luke 19:10
Everything he preached, taught, and led flowed from this mission of reaching the lost and strengthening the saved.
