Mildred “Dree” Hubbert Young was born August 12, 1949 in Guin, AL to the late Millard Hubbert and Ida V. Wilson Hubbert. She departed this earthly life on May 25, 2019 at Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield, AL with her family by her side.
She accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of White Rock Church of Christ in Guin, AL. She enjoyed worship, fellowship, reading, spending time with family, and cheering her grandchildren on in all of their endeavors.
She was the devoted wife of Melvin “Rudy” Young, Russellville, AL. Mildred and Melvin were married 44 years. She was the loving mother of two daughters, Meletha Walker and Marlena Young-Jones. She was very proud of them and always looked forward to spending time with them. She was a member of First Baptist Church, College Avenue. She served her church in many capacities, including vacation bible school teacher, communion preparation, and several other committees.
Mildred graduated from Guin Colored School in 1967. She attended Northwest Shoals Community College and graduated from Livingston University with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education and Special Education. She taught 3rd grade for Russellville City Schools for 28.5 years.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Ida V. Wilson Hubbert; father, Millard Hubbert; and sister, Shirley Hubbert. Mildred leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Meletha Walker (Jason) of Russellville, AL; and Marlena Young-Jones of Russellville, AL; brothers, Curt “C.M.” Hubbert of Guin, AL, and Edgar “Allen” Hubbert (Sharon) of Montgomery, AL; nieces and nephews, Marshonia “Shon” Hubbert, Sydney Hubbert, Alaron Hubbert, Edgar Hubbert, Jr, Jessica Bailey, and Yvonne Weinstock; one aunt, Bessie Nell Hubbert of Belden, MS; a sister-in-law, Irean Meade; three brothers-in-law, Robert Earl Young, Thomas (Patricia) Young, Terry (Allison) Young, and Jerry (Patricia) Young; and many other loving relatives and friends. She will be deeply missed.
