Mary Ellen Thomas was born January 29, 1941, to the late Augusta Kirk Bates and Eddie Thatch. She departed this life on August 8, 2022, at Helen Keller Hospital, Sheffield, Alabama.
Mary accepted Christ at an early age and united with St. Luke United Methodist Church, where she served faithful until her health started to decline.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe H. Thomas, and sisters: Bettie Malone Butler and Sarah Nell Thatch Jackson.
Mary loved singing praises to God. She was the last living member and lead singer of the gospel group, The Robert Allen
Singers, her favorite song to lead was, “None But The Righteous Shall See God..” She was also one of the lead singers with, The Harps of Zion Gospel Singers.
Mary loved her family. She leaves to cherish her memories, one son, Rico Thomas, one daughter, Monica Thomas, her friend, Hayward Ramson, all of Sheffield AL, four granddaughters: Brianna Hampton, Huntsville AL., Myaca Thomas, Iyana Thomas, and Jasheiona Ramson, and one grandson, Kymarion Ramson, all of Sheffield AL., one great grandson, Bail Hampton, Huntsville AL,. sisters: Janice Dukes, Louisville KY,. Deloris (James) Johnson, Sheffield AL., and Barbara Belue, Florence AL., one brother, Eugene Brown, Elba AL., sisters in law: Sadie B.
Hollman, Muscle Shoals AL., Gloria J. Calloway, Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Mary Lois Thomas, Barton AL., foster brothers and sisters : Lil (Don) Williams, Barbara, Linda, and Joel Malone, brother in law, Don Jackson, and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
