Martha Marvlin Mullens affectionately known as “Mab” eternal rest on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Cottage of the Shoals in Tuscumbia. She was born on April 9, 1944, to the late Oscar and Dovella Haney Mullins in Knoxville, Tennessee. Her early childhood was spent in the home of her childhood friends: Gladys Carter Canty, Evonne Ray Barners, Dora Jean Vinson, Mary (Cat) Hogans Vinson, and Frankie Fitzgerald Hogan; they all shared fond memories that will last a lifetime.
Martha attended Leighton Training School and played the cymbals in the band. She graduated with her beloved Class of 1962. Martha enjoyed class reunions, anything concerning the Class of ’62, it was a highlight to her. She enjoyed Alabama Football, Basketball, and anything that was connected to the “Roll Tide”. She never got a chance to visit the college campus, but her spirit will forever be affiliated with the Class of ‘62 and Alabama Football.
Martha attended First Missionary Baptist Church of Leighton, Alabama, under the leadership of the late Pastor A.J. Mayes. There at First Baptist, she served in the Sunbeam Band, Young Matrons, Red Circle, Choir, and the finance committee. She remained faithful under the leadership of Pastor Andre McGhaee, with the newly named Chief Cornerstone Church until her health failed.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Dovella Haney Mullins; two brothers, Leroy Haney and Thomas Mullins; grandparents, Jake and Mary Mullins, John and Mary Haney; and a nephew, Leroy Haney, Jr.
Martha is survived by two devoted cousins and caretakers, Maria Johnson and Kentraile (Bri and Kyro) Johnson, all of Leighton, AL; a devoted first cousin, Constance Johnson of Buffalo, NY; a niece, Cheryl Mullins of Pacifica, CA; a nephew, Blaine Mullins of Pacifica, CA; devoted cousins, Wayne and Khyria Hayes of Detroit, MI; and other relatives and friends.
