Ms. Leatha Ann Thompson was born on February 12, 1927 to the late Hester King Thompson and the late Reverend Tamrue (Laura) Thompson in Sheffield, Alabama, she was the oldest of fifteen children. She departed this life on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at Mitchell Hollingsworth Nursing and Rehab Center in Florence, AL. She was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, Granna, Grandma, and Madear.
She confessed a hope in Jesus Christ at an early age of nine and joined Mt. Olievia MB Church in 1936, where she remained a faithful member until her sudden illness and death. She loved her church family. Leatha Ann was a member of the Senior Choir and served as the president and secretary, member of the Missionary Society for many years. She served as a field worker for the Women Education Convention, she became a member of the Eastern Star Naomi Chapter #379 on November 8, 1975.
Leatha Ann graduated from Leighton Training School in 1947. She worked as a domestic worker for many years. In 1967 she joined the working staff at Colbert County Hospital where she was a nurse’s aide and caretaker until her retirement in 1986.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Hester Marlene Thompson, granddaughter, Sandra Goode, two sisters, Mary Frances Haley and Maple King, seven brothers: Rev. M.T. Thompson, Sr., Tamrue Jr., Richard, Robert Paul, Bowsey, Douglas and Curtis Thompson.
She leaves to cherish her memories: one son, Dr. Grady (Faye) Thompson of Albany, GA, four daughters: Elizabeth (Johnny) Goode of Muscle Shoals, AL, Valery T. Goodloe of Sheffield, AL, Vicky Thompson of Muscle Shoals, AL and Sue Thompson of Sheffield, AL, nine grandchildren, seventeen great- grandchildren, four sisters: Nazarene Darrough and Jewell (Lemuel) Howell, both of Muscle Shoals, AL, Maxine Robinson of Norcross, GA and Cleazela Roberson of Florence, AL, one brother, Willie Bell Carter of Chattanooga, TN, one aunt, Frances Darthard of Muscle Shoals, AL, one uncle, David (Mary) King of Muscle Shoals, AL, five sisters in law: Pecola Thompson of Saginaw, MI, Lucille Thompson and Alicia Thompson of Sheffield, AL, Cecilia Thompson of Bay City, MI and Lillie (Charles) Davis of Muscle Shoals, AL. A very special niece, Bessie C. McDole, of Saginaw, MI and a special cousin Vonda Whiteside of Florence, AL and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Ms. Thompson will lie in the sanctuary one hour prior to the funeral service. Dr. George J. Granville, Pastor
