Katie Lee Gilbert Simmons, a lifelong resident of Florence, Alabama, received her earthly wings and transitioned to heavenly home on Wednesday May 12, 2021. Katie was born July 29, 1934, where she professed her love for Christ at an early age and was baptized with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

Katie was an active member of Galilee M.B. Church where she served the Lord faithfully and was involved in several auxiliaries. During this time Katie chaired the Youth Choir; a faithful member of the Senior Choir, the Gospel Choir and Galilee Community Chorus, she also was The Director of the Little Community Chorus in which she started in Rainbow City. with the neighborhood kids.

Ms Simmons attended Oakland School and Burrell Slater School, where she received her GED. She also received her formal training in Cosmetology under the tutelage of Mrs. Hattie Thompson. Katie attended Alabama Christian College and loved to study the Word of God Daily. For many years she was an active member of the local chapter of the NAACP.

Katie was employed with ECM Hospital for many years and worked in Pediatric Care. She was active with the Northwest Alabama Therapeutic Foster Care Program, and was a Foster Grandparent working in the Florence City Schools as a Grandma to the children whom she loved and adored. She was a strong advocate for children and the elderly, where she worked tirelessly to impact and improve the lives of others through service.

Katie was a vibrant soul who embraced life to the fullest, she loved her family, her church, the youth, gardening, shopping and traveling. “She Loved Like Christ, She Lived Like Christ as She walked in the Footsteps of Jesus.”

She was proceeded in death by her Son: Tommy Earl Simmons, Parents Charlie Gilbert Sr. and Cornelia Holiday Gilbert and Fourteen Siblings.

She leaves to cherish her memories her loving and devoted children: Mildred A. Armstead (John), Hal D. Simmons, Florence, AL, Shirley A. Simmons-Atlanta, GA, Councilwoman Kaytrina P. Simmons, Twymine M. Simmons (Tiffany Smith) Florence, AL.

Grand Children: Roderick L. Armstead (Jamie), Korneshia Ingram, Tyanesha Barnett, Aquilla Simmons, Jasmine Armstead, Tylon Simmons, Kobee Simmons, Alexis Brooke Malone, Jarrell Simmons, Alivia Simmons,

Great Grand: Ryan K. Jones, Amerie Armstead, Kaine Foster, Kaloni Barnett

Siblings: Otis Gilbert (Josephine) Indianapolis, Indiana, Charlie Gilbert Jr. (Sandra Kay) Muscle Shoals, AL.

A host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Friends and the friends of her children who lovingly called her Mamma Katie and TT.
