Jimmy Hughes Smith was born on July 2, 1949, to the late Jake and Gracie Smith in Franklin County, Alabama. He departed this life on Monday, October 14, 2024, at North Alabama Medical Center in Florence, Alabama.
Jimmy Smith retired from Colbert County Courthouse and worked at Alabama Bands for more than 30 years.
He is preceded in death by his two sisters, Patricia Ann Young of Russellville, AL, and Nellie Nance of Russellville, AL.
Jimmy leaves behind a loving, caring, and devoted wife, Gloria Smith of Sheffield, AL; sons, Jimmy H. Smith Jr. (LaKeisha) of Atlanta, GA, Ray Garner of Atlanta, GA, the late George (Vanessa) Garner of Sheffield, AL; daughters, Alexanderia (Lazell) Coleman of Simpsonville, SC, Tameka Jarmon of Atlanta, GA, and Shamar Horrison of Sheffield, AL; grandchildren, Jalen Abernathy, Cameron Campbell, Messiah Smith, Praise Smith, Vonita (Anita) Jackson, Randy (Kyndra) Horrison, Tyreshia Horrison, Tariq Garner, and the late Avery Hildreth; two brothers, Joe Smith and Reverend Johnny Smith of Russellville, AL; two sisters, Virginia Bookert of Muscle Shoals, AL and Tunya Moorer of Akron, OH; three Aunts, Myrtelle Pearson, Alma Shropshire of Akron, OH, and Minnie Joe Smith of Atlanta, GA; ten brothers-in-law, Melvin Young, Jake Young, Corey Bean, Johnny Lee Nance Sr., Terry (Allison) Young, Jerry (Patricia) Maryland, Larry (Donna) Carroll, Tommie Carroll, Arthur (Shirley) Carroll, Earest Carroll; five sisters-in-law, Tori Bean, Jessie Neloms, Brenda Carroll, Jackquelyn Carroll, and Vera Carroll; and a host of nieces, nephews, close relatives and friends.
