With hearts full of love and gratitude, we celebrate the life and legacy of George Tramont Abernathy, who transitioned peacefully on April 11, 2026, at the age of 53, in Muscle Shoals, AL.
George was born on February 13, 1973, in Louisville, KY to George C Bates, and Sallie M Gayden. From an early age, he carried a presence that could not be ignored marked by his big, unforgettable smile and a laughter that could fill any room. He had a way of bringing joy to others, often without even trying.
Above all, George was a devoted father. His children were his pride and purpose, and he poured his love, time, and wisdom into them every day. He led by example showing what it meant to work hard, stand tall, and take care of your own.
George was a businessman and a hardworking man who believed in building something meaningful. He approached his work with dedication, discipline, and integrity, never afraid of long days or hard challenges. He understood that hard work wasn't just about success-it was about creating stability, legacy, and opportunity for those he loved.
A man of faith, George walked with God and carried that faith into his everyday life. Whether through his words, his actions, or simply how he showed up for people, he reflected a spirit of strength, kindness, and quiet assurance.
He found joy in life's moments-sharing laughs, being around family, and making memories that will live on forever. His energy, his smile, and his laughter are things that will never be forgotten.
George is preceded in death by Amira Abernathy (Granddaughter), George "Preacher" Bates (Grandfather) Bessie Abernathy (Great-Grandmother), Lille Ricks (Grandmother), Rush King (Grandfather), Maggie Ricks (Great- Grandmother), Lonnie Edward Ricks (Uncle), Sylvester Gayden (Step-Father),
He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Kayla O Bates (daughter), Jada 1 Medina (daughter), Demitreus T Abernathy (son), Montez E Abernathy (son), wife, Shawn McWashington Abernathy and step-son, Steffon Myer, six grandchildren, two sisters Tammy Bates, Miracle (Niece), Monica Bates (Derrick), Denzel (nephew), Minnie Ruth Bates (Grandmother), five brothers Curtis, Montez (Angie), Quincy, Ron, and Tony, four great aunts Susie Allen, Linda Harden, Bernice Thorn, Rose Nell Johnson, two great uncles Leonard Thompson, Bobby Thompson, and other family members, including nine aunts, five uncles, a host of cousins, extended family, and dear friends who will continue to carry his legacy forward.
Today, we don't just mourn-we celebrate a life well lived. A life full of love, laughter, and purpose. A man who showed up, worked hard, loved deeply, and left a mark that will never fade.
