Emma Meade Obituary
Emma Lue Acklin was born September 30, 1939, to the late Sam, Sr., and Emma Saunders Acklin. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Brown Temple CME Church her entire life, where she served as a choir member and stewardess. On June 26, 2021, God said, “Well done” and allowed Mrs. Meade to go home peacefully to rest.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Meade; sisters, Mary Helen Acklin Smith, Josephine Acklin, and Laura Acklin Smith; brothers, Sam, Jr and Willie Acklin; niece Diedra Smith Johnson; and nephew, Keith Smith.
Mrs. Emma Lue was a 1958 graduate of Sterling High School. She married Robert L. Meade on September 23, 1989, and was a devoted wife until his passing on January 12, 2014. She was employed by Monarch Tile until her retirement. But that didn’t keep Mrs. Meade down. She moved on to the Foster Grandparents Program where she helped children at the Shoals Area COARMM Learning Center. Mrs. Meade was full of life and could be found on the dance floor at numerous gatherings around town.
Mrs. Meade was loved and will be dearly missed. Those left to cherish her memory are two nieces, Deborah Fullove of Oakland, CA and Angelica Acklin of Tuscaloosa, AL; a special great-niece, KaVonna Acklin of Sheffield, AL; five nephews, Brian and Derrick Smith, both of Oakland, CA; David Acklin of Sheffield, AL; Brantheny and Darryle Acklin, both of Huntsville, AL; three sisters-in law, Janice Acklin of Tuscumbia, AL; Mattie Malone and Hattie Thompson; one foster sister-in-law, Janice Hooks of St. Louis, MO; two brothers-in-law, William Meade and Donald Meade; one nephew-in-law, Bryan (Laney) Johnson, Fairfield, CA; four great-nieces; four great-nephews; special friends, Mrs. Martha Polk, Ms. Anethia Thompson, and Ms. Mary Ann Wilson; and a host of other relatives and friends, to include her Brown Temple CME Church Family.
