After relocating to Sheffield, AL, she joined First Missionary Baptist Church of Sheffield. She was one of the founding members of this new church under the leadership of Elder Jerry Townsend. For over 50 years, she was an active and faithful member under the leadership of the late Bishop Thomas Owens. She served on the Usher Board, Prayer Band, President of the Kitchen Committee, Coordinator of the Women Harvest Day, and was a Church Mother.
She worked at National Linen for over 26 years as a seamstress. Throughout the Shoals area she was known as the Avon Lady. Her passion for selling Avon would last for over 40 years. Everywhere she went, she would ask if they wanted an Avon book.
