David Jones Obituary

Mr. David Lee Jones was born on October 24, 1952, to the late Maxie Lee Jones and Robert Allen, Sr. He was also raised by his grandparents, Ida Mae King and Harold King. He departed his life on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at 1:58pm at Vanderbilt Wilson Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee.

David Lee was raised in Lawrence County, Alabama and attended Central High School in Courtland, Alabama. At an early age, he confessed his life to Christ at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Town Creek, Alabama. In 1993, David Lee joined Mt. Olievia Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Dr. George Granville. There, he served as a faithful member of the male choir.

David Lee was well known everywhere he went. He had a personality that people remembered, and he carried a spirit that could brighten a room. He enjoyed farming and could often be found going around collecting junk. He also loved eating at Bojangles and Golden Corral. Above all, David Lee loved his family. He leaves behind memories that will continue to bring comfort, laughter, and reflection to those who knew him best.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Maxie Lee Jones and Robert Allen, Sr.; grandparents, Ida Mae King and Harold King; sisters, Patty Ann Mosley, Judy Cowan, and Effie Mae Horton; brothers, Robert Allen, Pastor Robert “Fat Daddy” Allen, Jr., Andrew Allen, Bennie Howlett, and Tommy Allen; and aunt, Annie Pearl Allen.

He leaves to cherish his memories:

one daughter, Teresa (Rodney) Hullett of Decatur, AL; four sons, David Spangler of Florence, AL, Demetrius Underwood of Huntsville, AL, Rev. Demarkus (Joneice) Underwood of Moody, AL, and his baby, Cornelius Underwood of Sheffield, AL; seven grandchildren, Rodney, Tasia, D’Khiylen, Delajhia, Daelynn, D’Erika, and Z’Niyh; three great-grandchildren, Ayden, Kylie, and Kelan; sisters, Annie B. Bolden of Decatur, AL, Paticia Jones of Athens, AL, Flecia Bolding of Decatur, AL, Gleria McVay of Sheffield, AL, Burt Ann Puryear of Courtland, AL, and Fannie Mason of Courtland, AL; brothers, James Carter of North Carolina, Ronald Jones of Decatur, AL, Albert Jones of Courtland, AL, Lester (Lucy) Brown of Courtland, AL, and Robert Brown of Decatur, AL; sisters-in-law, Renita Allen and Linda Allen; stepmother, Ella Allen of Courtland, AL; a special nieces, Joyce Howlett and Nicole West; a special nephew, Benjamin Howlett; a special friend, caregiver, and the mother of his children, who took care of him daily, Tanya (Rayfield) Underwood Young of Muscle Shoals, AL; a special cousin/brother, Ronald Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.
